Introduction (With downloadable handout)

Welcome to Metal Smithing 100! In this first lesson, you’ll learn about the essential tools and safety equipment you’ll need to create beautiful pieces of jewellery. In Part 1, we’ll explore the Metal Smithing 100 Toolkit, which includes a binder with step-by-step instructions and useful charts. We’ll also take a closer look at the safety glasses, which are a must-have when working with metal. Remember to keep them scratch-free and away from other tools in the box.

In Part 2, we’ll cover important safety rules to keep in mind when working with fire and other tools. Always be mindful of your surroundings and avoid sudden movements or loud noises that could distract others. If an accident does occur, report it immediately to your instructor.

Finally, in Part 3, we’ll dive into some beginner-friendly projects that will help you practice essential metalworking techniques. From soldering to sawing and piercing, you’ll learn how to create beautiful bracelets and other pieces of jewellery. Remember to take your time and be mindful of moving parts and sharp tools. By the end of this lesson, you’ll have the skills and knowledge you need to create stunning pieces of jewellery and stay safe while doing it.
